U.S. Secretary of State Announces Visa Restrictions Targeting Technology Companies from China

On July 15th, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced in a press conference plans to implement visa restrictions on certain employees of technology companies from China, citing companies like Huawei that, according to the Secretary, “provide material support to regimes engaging in human rights violations and abuses globally.” We do not expect that this policy announcement will have a far-reaching impact on most Chinese companies operating in the United States. It appears to be narrowly targeted at specific companies, and specified individuals working at those companies. We will provide updates on any new information on how and when these visa restrictions will be implemented.
