USCIS Delays Furloughs of More Than 13,000 Employees Until End of August

On Friday, July 24th, Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chairman Patrick Leahy announced that the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS), which anticipated furloughing over 13,000 employees starting August 3rd, will be postponing furloughs through August 31st. As reported last week, the USCIS has been facing massive budgetary shortfalls as a result of the pandemic and resulting economic crisis driving down immigration filings and their required fees, which are the primary source of funding for the agency. We will update our clients if the USCIS proceeds with anticipated furloughs at the end of August.
