Canada Announces Study Policy For Certain Work Permit Holders

Under a new temporary public policy effective June 27, 2023, foreign workers in Canada with a valid work permit on June 7, 2023 or who applied to extend their work permit on or prior to June 7, 2023, will not require a study permit to attend a study program longer than 6 months. Eligible workers can study pursuant to this policy until the expiry of their work permits or until the policy expires on June 27, 2023. The policy will be beneficial to individuals looking to increase their points for qualifying for permanent residence programs by obtaining further Canadian educational credentials. However, workers who wish to benefit from the policy should note that any period of work during full-time studies will not count as work experience for the purpose of Express Entry.
