USCIS Instructs Applicants Who Are Ill to Reschedule Appointments at the USCIS Field Offices Due to COVID-19

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) updated its website instructing individuals to not appear for appointments at the local USCIS office if they are ill or become ill, regardless of whether the individual was exposed to the coronavirus (COVID-19). Per the USCIS website, an individual should reschedule the appointment notice to reschedule if he or she:

• Were in China within 14 days of the appointment;

• Believe that he or she may have been exposed to COVID-19 (even if not recently in China); or

• Are experiencing flu-like symptoms (such as a runny nose, headache, cough, sore throat or fever).

There is no penalty for rescheduling the appointment until the individual is healthy. Please note that immigration officers may also reschedule the appointment if an individual appears to be ill.
